The Future Echo Behind The Screen

Echo, as a very basic acoustic term, refers to the reflection of sound arriving at the listener within a very short moment right after the direct sound. Besides being acoustic information, it will be that simple 4-letter word for us to facilitate the effect of being behind the screen for the professional environment.

When looking for a professional experience such as a job, internship or a master/doctorate, there are always hundreds, sometimes even thousands of candidates awaiting, like you! Academic pasts may be the same. Then, there are other specifications that are searched by departments to break the equalizer. It is, of course, not enough to have these qualities with you unless you know how to explain them.

If you are, at least once in your life, an organizer of SU, you are now a person behind the screen who controls an event with a team that brings the first point which is connected to others: Teamwork. Everyone can put this word onto their CVs, but what kind of teamwork you have is different…

You work with your team for 6 to 9 months to make each person separately possess a good mood considering every small detail in 2 weeks period starting from the moment you even do not know who evaluates your job. It shows that you are suitable to work with other people, national or international. You divide schedule with your team to control the timing and even show your leadership by knowing every single moment of SU if you are the main organizer. That is related to how you mind deadlines and task end. Because the timing is strict, you try to prevent procrastination and negativeness of participants related to it. That moment, you have to get that you are well-disciplined and caring about other people’s situation. Sometimes you suddenly come up with an idea to save the moment quickly or via plan B which bring risk management and well-planning before. You see yourself doing a bunch of different work with your team that you have maybe never done before, but that also brings versatility. You do not sleep much but still keep smiling, that brings you how you never give up enjoying while working.

Regarding those, you are responsible for a family consisting of 40 different thoughts and imaginations. That means you are the reason why these people are connected to each other. Well, can we say then, you are easy going to adapt yourself to your co-workers in a very short while, maybe in 2 weeks?

Being an organizer for SU is a huge responsibility. You spend a lot of time applying, doing PR, selecting participants, making sure they are okay with everything. It is a huge process that teaches you how to work regularly. Sometimes you argue with your team for any reason, which is understandable because of the fever of doing everything at its best. However, what is important is to take it as a professional and keep staying together. Being open-minded for any comment and criticism is another value you have to tackle with during your professional life.

Does organizing an SU guarantee that you get a job? Of course not! But it at least gives you the chance to run across the possible occasions that will happen in the future. To use these chances and ability to frame them for the future opportunities are in the hands of you. Use the chances to sell yourself to get what you want. Maybe not in a short time as in the nature but, try it, you will see the effect of the echo to step forward!

Advice "How to add SU organization into CV": Just write down SU organization in “city/cities” with your position shortly with its dates and wait for the question “What is SU?/What have you done?” to mention about the connection between values above and your role during SU.
